oh goody… it’s hockey season again… my most favo(u)rite-est maple leafs shall have another shot at long lost glories of the past…
oh poop… it’s a less than auspicious 0-2 start… on the bright side i feel a karen vs. cj – leafs vs. canadiens – jersey-wearin’ battle royale coming on saturday night… a win then to go to 1-2 would be groovy on several levels… hah…
as a hockey-related aside… ’66-’67 was when my most favo(u)rite-est player, bobby orr, first played in the nhl… and speaking of him… love-of-my-life karen picked me up a book a while ago called searching for bobby orr… was pretty good i reckon in a look-back-to-the-old-days kinda way…

so there’s these bugs…
no… there’s this sport… it’s called cricket… and i am, as a regular north ‘merican sports-fan type feller, pretty friggin’ unaware about the ins and outs of the game… which is kind of a shame as it looks like a pretty cool sport from what i can see…
furthermore… it’s not like i don’t/haven’t have/had the opportunity to learn a bit about it as a) dear ol’ dad is from the isles (british), b) at least half of my new-found work pals are indian, passionate about the game, and quite up-to-date on cricket scores and news, and c) amigos steve and ebo have been ramblin’ on about it for ages…
so i’m embarking on a cricket learnin’ expedition…
thus far i’ve armed myself with vineet, one of my afforementioned cricket-insider work pals, wikipedia, and the pretty stylin’ cricinfo website…
so let the education begin… any other suggestions for figurin’ it all out would be most welcomed…

you know… not in a paris hilton way… more in a heat and humidity sorta way… something the seattle to toronto move has kinda brought to the forefront of my mind…
so after yet another long-ass break in posting here i find myself and the tugboat sitting downstairs at 4:00 in the morning watching, for about the millionth time, thomas the tank engine’s spectacular adventures of some sort or another… and i figured maybe it’s time to write a little something…
so in my blog-type absence we’ve for the most part just been chillin’ and have had a fine summer thus far… besides a multitude of bbqs and time playing in the park with the kiddos we managed to take our first full-family shot at camping… which i’d have to call a qualified success… apart from the kiddos’ lack of desire/ability to go to sleep at night and love-of-my-life karen’s coming down with some wicked flu-like symptoms on the last day it was quite grand… such a success that methinks we’re gonna give it another shot in a couple of weeks… which makes me happy because i’ve always dug the outdoors and the woods and i’m glad that the chilluns seem to like that kinda stuff as well…
another heavenly fishing trip with the boys has come and gone… my personal most-magical-place-ever montana is doing well… i really get a lot out of going there each year… fish were caught, adventures were had, and the mighty austin came along for the first time this year which was pretty darn cool… i’d like to say the biggest thank you to k for holding down the fort while i was gone… due to some unfortunate scheduling she ended up being a fuul time single parent with no backup for the whole week that i was gone… while attempting to study for a hugely important professional certification test… you rock honey…
… and i’m proud of you for kicking ass on said test the day after i got back…
and one of my favorite summertime things… the tour de france… is going on… what a friggin’ debacle… i’ll save some extra thoughts on that for another post… two quick thoughts though… go leipheimer (and please don’t slap me around by getting caught doping)… and i hope that after this year this is still one of my fave summer things…
and on that note… i shall negotiate w/ seb for some napping…

it’s march madness baby… the beloved ohio state buckeyes are a number one seed…

i’m excited….

still reeling from the debacle that was the national championship football game i was rather ecstatic to see the beloved alma mater win the big game this weekend…
i loves me some of that march madness and it’s right around the corner…
go bucks…

have had a short bloggin’ break due to a bout of the influenza… i like that better than “flu”… heck… i think from now on i’ll say i’ve had a run in with an orthomyxoviridae family rna virus… that sounds even cooler…
anyone have kids???… sure… err… lots of folks do… for those who don’t – here’s how it works:
child #1 goes to school, the repository of all things illness-based, and gets sick…
child #1 passes said illness on to child #2 (the snot slinga)… child #2, whilst illin’ & clingy, transfers volumes of the ragin’-with-ick muck from his (or her) glazed doughnut-lookin’ visage to your own eyes, nose, mouth and whatever other tiny lil’ mucous membrane-type places exist anywhere on your body… wait two days, and presto!!!… yer ganked!!!…
after about a week of this i’m finally feeling better… this is good… especially since it’s… wait for it… curling night baybee!!!… ooooh yeah… love-of-my-life karen and i missed our supposedly innaugural outing last week as we felt like butt but i think we’re ready to go this eve… and i’m looking forward to it… and to the customary pre- and post- drink(s)…

so on saturday morn karen and i embarked on a grand adventure… we had our first official curling experience… a clinic at the afforementioned richmond hill curling club for newbies such as ourselves…
it was a hoot… met some nice folks… learned some of the basics… managed not to injure ourselves or look too much like total idiots along the way… hah…
i’m looking forward to our first official night o’ curling in a couple of weeks…
