I’m compelled to mention the band Cloud Cult. I stumbled upon them through Spinner.com’s Video Podcast and was blown away. Further investigations only added to my blown-away-ness. Supremely great music and an interesting approach to life and the music business. Highly recommended.
No, not you.
To you - welcome to this blog’s new home…
so since my last postings back in ‘07 we’ve finished the basement… except for some minor stuff… and close to completion is my long-dreamed-about music room… a little guitar based sanctuary if you will…
i dig them guitars…
and gadgets… i like gadgets…
so from the guitars and gadgets angle i’d have to say this is pretty groovy… always being in tune and properly intonated… a good thing…
there’s been a couple of cool guitar things released recently… gibson also put out their digital guitar a while back… and earlier this year fender released the rather lust inducing vg strat…
so driving to work today i uncovered a most excellent tape of the most beloved and somewhat recently deceased spank, the band i was in back in seattle… sounds like it was from a practice as we ramped up for our official cd release party a couple years ago… the usual crap rehearsal space mix is evident but i was quite impressed with the little performances i found there… them there songs are actually pretty good and we played ‘em well… i really like(d) playing in a band… that one in particilar… that’d be one of the things i miss most since our cross-continent relocation last year… i think a new, most likely solo, musical experience is coming though… there’s going to be a music room / studio in the new basement where i plan on laying down some phat tracks yo… stay tuned…

the basement (and music room therein) is soon to be embarked upon but is as of now unfinished… as evidenced by the backdrop seen below - you’ll notice the “wall” treatment looks strangely reminiscent of an allied van lines moving blanket…
but being a smidge extra inspired as i mentioned in my previous post i thought i’d post a pic of my guitar-type amigos… i’m by and large a pretty non-material-possessions-influenced feller… my wedding ring and music stuff seem to be the exceptions… i’m pretty gosh darn attached to these… and i think they look kinda cool in a row (moving-blanket-wall aside) now that i got a couple of those guitar-hanger-thingies…
so i’ve become a very big fan of the “podcast” since getting my first ipod a while back… i’ve also become a huge fan of the “video podcast” since upgrading to the video version of the ipod this summer… i dig the fact that they’re free, my favorite price, and you can find such a wide array of subject matter… the wild production value variance often makes for lots of added interest as well…
i’ve been poking around and checking out lots of them-there new-fangled video-type ones lately… and as a “musician”, if i can call myself that, i’m really jazzed by some that i’ve found…
the most inspirational thing for me as far as music-creatin’ goes is seeing live music… and the more intimate the setting the better…
that being said… i’m totally into the interface from spinner.com… awesome roster of acts that drop by to play 3 or 4 songs and then do a little mini interview… my fave thus far would be spoon… a band whose praises i have been singing for a while now… and a band who love-of-my-life k and i narrowly missed going to see live a mere two weeks ago… next tour for sure…
anyway… this whole spinner deal has got me pretty jazzed… fun to watch… and inspiring at the same time… methinks a new bushrod song or two are on the way… perhaps an opportunity for some cross-continent collaboration mr. lacey???…
