A Super-Big Thanks To Our Super-Awesome Friends Who We Haven’t Talked To In A Super-Long Time
Hey you Wheelers!!!
I love you guys!!! Thanks so much for sending flowers to the Boo for her ballet recital - she was super excited and I think that was just the most awsomest thing to do ever.
Sorry it’s been so long since we talked in person - I shall endeavo(u)r to give y’all a ringy-dingy this weekend to say howdy. And talk about interesting topics. Like soup.
ahhh… the good ol’ days…
love-of-my-life karen just shared this vintage pic from the stay-at-home dad days… made me laugh…
trains

the one i call tugboat sure likes trains… this makes me happy… because i like trains too… trains are cool… and furthermore, his granddad has been a train fan for a long time too…
being as he’s three and we live in a constant storm of marketing and commercialization seb not only likes “trains” in the bigger sense… he specifically likes thomas… the tank engine… you may have heard of him if you have a young child…
we own a vast array of thomas the tank engine product tie-in marketing crap products and toys… the most favourite-est and longest lasting on the interest-meter is a neato wooden set… wooden tracks in all different sizes and configurations that you can make your own layout with… sebby is mad for this stuff and i think it’s pretty great too…
so a while ago i got a smokin’ 70% off-ish deal at toys ‘r’ us on a little table that was made to build these tracks upon… it’s painted all nice and has a drawer for the extra pieces… the only issue is that it’s about 3′ x 4′ and given the sheer volume of track that we have it was woefully undersized…
enter our recently obsolete dining room table… a most lovely ikea number that has served us well for the last 5 or 6 years… unfortunately it suffered some rather mr. clean magic eraser-proof paint stains a few months back during an exciting craft session… the time had come to find a replacement and love-of-my-life karen had the epiphany that it could and should be the greatest ever toys ‘r’ us train table replacement… so now it is…
amazing what a circular saw can do for moving towards thomas nirvana… next plan is to cover the top with some felt and we should be good to go… it will be a fine addition to the play area in our soon-to-be-finished basement…
everytime a look at this thing, however, i giggle… looks like we’re ready to mack on some sushi…
‘appy ‘alloween
so to start the evening i had the trepidation… actually… not so much the trepidation but i was all… “uhhhh… whatever”…. because this halloween it was decided that my job was to man the door and hand out the loot…
initially… i was sad… last year i had lotsa fun roaming around with the kiddos getting goodies…
but i, my friends, am a team player… and if the team decided that i was the candy-handing-out mo-fo this year then so be it… i would make the best of it…
and i actually had a fine time… i hung out with our new fishies… i spun pink floyd’s dark side of the moon louder than ususal… my new drinkin’ buddy tapvat / cerveza de barril / le fut pression was there… as were my pals the skulls… you’ll notice the best in-the-dark-shot i could accomplish was a bit on the blurry side… i blame my new drinkin’ buddy tapvat / cerveza de barril / le fut pression…
and i began my campaign to establish our house as the place to go on halloween night… “dig in kiddos”… go on, have another”… “you must be kidding… you call your self a trick-or-treater???”… my goal was to dump all the goodies before the kiddos got home… i came up short but within a half hour or so we were out… hopefully we have thrown down the gauntlet and are in the running for best-place-to-go hono(u)rs…
mentholated feet
so how odd is this???… i get an email yesterday from someone saying that a really effective night-time cough remedy is vicks vaporub… well “duh?!?!?” you might say “that’d be what it’s for after all”… but here’s the thing… the suggestion is that this stuff is wicked-cool effective, especially for kids, if you rub a bunch of it on the soles of the cough-afflicted’s feet before bed… hmmnnn…
well i’m of the opinion that medicine sure is cool and all… but i reckon there’s a lot more we don’t know about the human body compared to the amount of stuff we’ve figured out… and when all’s said and done the cure to stuff like cancer is probably going to be something like marinara enemas or something truly odd…
this … uh… open-mindedness on my part… and the fact that both of our darling offspring were in possession of truly bad-ass hacking coughs that had kept them up the night before was just too good an opportunity to pass up… so we slathered them up in the interest of science and the chance to get some sleep (them and us)…
and damn if it didn’t work… not for the whole night but for 3-4 hours at a time… pretty much no hacking at all and some restful sleep…
so there’s your tip for the day, gentle reader…. vaporub on the feet… works wonders… (not-so-much the marinara enemas)…

party time. excellent. and fish.
so yesterday we had a lil’ halloween get together at our house… we were joined by four or five families that we’ve met either through work colleagues or through the kiddos…
lotsa fun was had… love-of-my life karen talked about it and posted some pics here… my favo(u)rite picture is yours truly fisting a wee little pumpkin with glee…
after recovering from the revelries on saturday we headed out to the fish sto’ to try to make sense of the fish situation… i mentioned our first wave of troubles here… unfortunately that wasn’t the end of it… we had (err… they had) the ick (ich) (f*cking ich as i like to call it)… and we experienced a near total wipeout of our tank… when all was said and done we had the two plecos (which is kinda cool because they’re my faves) and a black loach left…
so we took a water sample to our pals at big al’s… i was pretty tickled when my new best fish pal steve told me that our tank water was the best he’d seen in ages and ages… so the light was green… opportunity knocked… and k and i decided to answer and head to africa… our tank is now devoted to the african cichlids… which is kind of a big move… these fishies are kinda the link between fresh and saltwater… they’re a bit finicky… sometimes agressive… and don’t get along with the regular run-of-the-mill community-type fish… the cool thing is that they’re often pretty colo(u)rful and groovy lookin’ compared to the regular community folk… so i sorta feel like we’ve taken the step from aquarium neophytes to semi-experienced aquarist folk… apart from the fact that we just wiped out virtually our whole tank i guess…
anyway… we got some new dudes and dudettes to the aquarium today and we’ll add to them over the next couple of weeks… in a month we should have a pretty stylin’ and colo(u)rful tank… and as soon as i can figure out how to take some pictures of our new pals that are in focus and look good i’ll post ‘em…
sunday
a) today was pretty darn fine… a beautiful day in toronto today… lotsa playing in the park…
b) the boo had her second skating lesson and did great… it’s hard to believe how fast she’s picking stuff up and i think that’s pretty awesome…
c) eat it haters… the buckeyes are number one and i’d put forth that they deserve to be as much as anyone… know why???… because they haven’t lost when they should’ve won… unlike, oh, i dunno, virtually everyone else who’s been at the top so far this year… was yesterday’s game a rolling over an unranked opponent???… err… i guess not… but apart from two utterly boner defensive turnovers-for-scores the final score woulda looked different… the stats certainly point to the fact that it was somewhat one-sided… trust me - as an alumnus and longtime fan i pretty much expect ‘em to hose things at some point before we start even thinking about a national championship… but jeez folks… at least they’ve shown up and won when they were supposed to…
d) continuing the sports theme for a second… go tribe… uh… and don’t choke…
e) and this was cool today…
