The Bushrod Chronicles

sauce, hot…

i like hot stuff… and i put hot sauce on just about everything i eat… and i’ve wanted for some time to make some of my own…

well the opportunity presented itself when my work amigo tony presented me with a big ol’ bag of rippin’ hot habanero peppers

and here… for posterity… as best as i can remember as i enjoyed a couple of beverages during the process… is the recipe for the pretty darn tasty, pretty darn hot, bushrod’s assrammer deluxe habanero sauce (hot)

habanero chiles (rippin’ hot)
crushed garlic
colleen’s red pepper jelly
light olive oil
white vinegar
salt

coarsely chop habaneros (i used 15) and saute until soft in some light olive oil along with about 1/4 cup of crushed garlic…

once the peppers are softened up a bit add about 1/2 cup of colleen’s red pepper jelly… colleen’s red pepper jelly will be the hardest ingredient for about 99.9995% of the population to procure as it’s made by colleen, the friend of my other work amigo jen, and is limited to an annual run of a few jars… i reckon one could (and will most likely have to) substitute some other red pepper jelly… anything red, sweet, and not too hot… it’s there for colo(u)r, sugar and flava… there’s plenty of heat coming from the habaneros…

once that heavenly concoction has burbled away for a while… and you’ve lost all of your nose hair whilst casually attempting to smell it… crank the heat up to high and add about 2 cups white vinegar and a couple teaspoons o’ salt… bring to a boil and let it go for about 10 minutes…

remove from heat and let cool… put into a blender and blend on medium until smooth…

there ya have it… eez good… compares well with lots of the “boutique” hot sauces i’ve encountered over the years…
