a band that i’ve very recently become extrememy enamored with… my morning jacket…

had heard of them a while ago and former spank bass player and all-around good guy tom loaned me a cd of them a couple of months ago… i listened to it and it was nice and all but didn’t amaze me or anything… forgot about them for a bit until i saw them on austin city limits a month or so ago and was completely blown away…

since then i’ve explored their catalog a bit and must say i’m extremely impressed… as is usually the case there’s something there that i can’t quite put my finger on but that makes me want more and more and more…

long story short they’re a bit of everything that i like in music… running the gamut from hard to soft, fast to slow, acoustic to electric… and they use reverb like gods… hah… and i like reverb…

highly recommended… their latest album “z” is a fine place to start before working your way back through their amazing catalog…

so in my quest for running adventure i’ve signed up for my first half marathon… yes indeed… this mother’s day i shall embrace 13 miles o’ joy and it’s going to be right in kirkland so that’s cool… after i couldn’t do the the mercer island one last weekend i was thinking i’d have to a) wait a while or b) travel somewhere… neither of which i want to do… thanks to zman’s head’s up i’m now rarin’ to go… now i need to make the time to actually do some training… that’d probably be best…

six months… no smokes… yay for me…

today’s my (and love-of-my-life karen’s) 4th anniversary… wheee!!!…

thanks for being my best-est pal honey… and for being an awesome wife and a super mum… and for putting up with me… hah…

it’s hard to believe it’s been four years… i’m having fun being yer hubby and as they say - time flies…

thinking about this today i looked at steve’s proposal video (which for some reason works fine in ie but is ganked in firefox)… it made me a happy feller!!!…

had a wonderful band practice with the boys last night… this whole three piece thing is pretty cool when it’s workin’…

i’ve taken to using one of the house amps at evolution instead of lugging mine in every week… either a modded marshall jcm 800 or a jcm 900 model with a boost function… good lord they sound good… i reckon there’s a reason that the whole les paul - marshall thing has the reputation of being a fine combination… i spend a lot of time just marvelling at the creamy chunky goodness washing forth over me at somewhat elevated decibel levels… i guess that makes it sound a little like peanut butter…

so since my last post many moons ago lots has happened… a few highlights…

i embarked on some semi-continent-spanning craziness… i flew cross-country to attend & participate in my dad’s 65th birthday… it was a hoot and i felt like a total rock star while doing it… just had a backpack and a guitar with me… took a red-eye flight out, got an early morning flight home, spent less than 24 hrs on the ground… and in between had a great visit… saw some cool sights, met a bunch of wonderful people, spent a portion of my time as a competitor in the most-intoxicated-feller contest (i think i may have won), and had the chance to play a few songs for folks… interestingly enough the last two items were going on concurrently… and even more interestingly the entire event was being videotaped… i’m told my performance was just lovely but i’m interested to see the evidence…

much sickness occurred within the family and was not enjoyed… colds… ear infections… with the amount of snot-slingin’ that occurs when a one year old and a three year old are sick i’m actually quite amazed that anyone in this house is ever healthy… our illness adventures included a bout of the 24-hour flu that the lovely and talented karen and i shared on a thursday afternoon/evening… i/we pretty much questioned if we were gonna expire as we went through lists of who we could ask to come watch the kids as we drove ourselves to the hospital… in the end we decided to just lay around moaning and whimpering fetal-like and let the kids watch entirely too much tv… that sucked…

not to be left out one of the family felines had all sorts of problems too… a few rather large vet bills later she seems to be on the mend…

three piece rock & roll adventures continue… i think the mighty spank has pretty much decided to not stress too much about the bass player auditions as steve has taken over those duties and is having a hoot… our sound’s a bit changed… and we’re all a tad challenged to make it all work in a sparser fashion… but it’s an adventure and so far a pretty fun one with some cool results… we’re goona try to play a gig as a three piece in june i reckon… maybe even try to sneak one in before that too… i’m looking forward to that…

i have done very little running… excuses abound… travel… illness… general overall busy-ness i guess… the mercer island half-marathon has been shelved… i think i’m gonna follow zman’s lead and shoot for the half-marathon in vancouver in may… then who knows???… maybe the full seattle marathon in the fall???… we shall see…

my xbox360 addiction has reached new levels… the kids are a good way to temper that… otherwise i think i’d just play the thing for hours at a time… tiger woods golf… kameo… pgr3… i’m hooked…
