race #2 in the books

well that was interesting…
so i’ve officially completed my second race… the 5 mile race at the bridle trails winter running festival… and it was cool… certainly had its moments though…
as i mentioned before the weather’s been pretty wet here even by seattle standards for the last month or so and conditions promised to be wet, muddy, and… poopy… being as these are horse riding trails… conditions were indeed as forecasted… hah…
’twas evident from about a mile into the race that i was in a different running world than i’m used to… i’ve been running on streets and sidewalks instead of through sludge and though i regularly deal with some pretty decent hills they’re not covered with the afforementioned mix of water/mud/horse crap… about halfway through the adventure i realized that i was wasting a decent amount of energy trying (in vain) to mimimize the time i spent in the puddles… from then on i just blasted right through ‘em… it was also evident at this point that i a) was dressed too warmly and b) had started too fast… bummer… but when the going got tough i tried to relax and focus on form more than anything else and it all worked out ok… finished in 46:04 which i’m just fine with all things considered…
there were some big time studs and studettes there today… there were several different race categories - the 5 mile version i did being the shortest… there was also a 10 mile race and… wait for it… a 50km race that could be done either in teams as a relay or solo… i take my hat off to the folks that finished that mother…
and i’m already looking forward to next year’s race…
love-of-my-life karen and the chilluns were waiting for me at the finish line which was magnificent… thanks for braving the elements for me honey… i can’t tell you how much your support means to me…
next up… a valentine’s day 5k at greenlake in seattle… short… flat… paved… lacking in horse poop… hah…
after the race we went to a birthday party for our pal phoebe who’s four now… bubbles the clown was there…
and the day finished off with some bevvies with pals the wheelers at our place post-party…
it was a fine day…

so it’s time for my second race… and i’m looking forward to it big time…
actually… as the weather’s been crap up here in the wonderful pacific northwest for the last month or so i’ve been wavering on whether or not i was gonna brave the elements and do this thing as it’s a trail race… on trails that horses ride on all the time… until i got a link from zman that gave a review of the race a couple of years ago… after reading the review it seemed so friggin’ wet, muddy, and horrible that i had to do it just as a personal point o’ pride… hah… i reckon i’ll take a full change of clothes and a couple of garbage bags for the car just in case… and i’m thinking my time’s not gonna be of too much concern today…
updates to follow…

well the band has had had a slight setback in our 37 step program for world domination… namely we’ve parted ways with our bass playin’ pal tom… step 3 is officially temporarily on hold…
so all you bass playing cats and kittens out there… if you live ’round seatle… like what you hear at www.spank-band.com… wanna be in a band… and act reasonably quickly… you too could have a shot at fulfilling your dreams of fame and fortune at a much lower level that you ever thought possible… hah…
shoot me an email if yer interested at cj@bushrodchronicles.com…

so having been bitten by the bug after my first foray into running a race… my second race is approaching this weekend… 5 miles of a cross country-ish sorta deal at bridle trails state park… they got horses there… i hope there’s a lack of corresponding horse poop there…
i also hope there’s a lack of rain… wishful thinking right now because its been dumping every day for a month straight as the weather peole like to point out… not quite sure what the terrain is like at this place but i hope its not gonna be 5 miles of running through ankle-deep mud… time shall tell i reckon…
and kenzie’s been invited to a birthday party right after the event… our amiga phoebe is turning four… timings tight but i think the family’s going to come along to watch dad run… then we’re going to get all packed up in the hot-rod minivan and i’m going to drop them off at the party, run home and hose the mud and horse droppings off myself, and then rejoin them once presentable…
should be fun…
oh yeah… and somewhere along the way we’ll all toast the seahawks for beating the redskins and advancing to the nfc championship game… word…
happy new year!!!

what???… it’s the 9th???… wow… what a night….
riiiight… we’ve got two kids… on the occasion… err… maybe occasions… that i’ve been hung over in the last couple of years i’ve tought myself to get over ‘em really fast… no hangovers this new year’s though… an early night with the family and a clear eyed morning… sheesh… getting old… or responsible… or maybe a bit of both… not such a bad thing i guess…
just been cruising along through the holidays… sad to see all the hoopla end but at the same time i’m kind of glad to be getting back into the regular rhythm o’ life… we had lotsa holiday fun… karen’s dad and his canine compadre madison came to stay with us for christmas… our little lady is now in love with madison and has started asking about getting a dog sometimes… she doesn’t understand the word “attrition”… as in “soon honey… we need to have a little kitty attrition first”… so i just change it to “when your brother’s a little older honey”… seems to suffice for now…
a big part of my lack of posts over the last three weeks is my christmas present from love-of-my-life karen… an xbox 360!!!… you rock honey… thanks so much!!!… i was a video game geek back when i was in high school but haven’t owned a console since the original playstation… well i got all caught up in the xbox 360 launch hype and decided that it was the must have item for me this year… karen went above and beyond to get me one and i gotta say from what i’ve seen it absolutely lives up to all the billing… from the design of the thing to its connectivity to the (in my eyes) mind boggling quality of the games… it is the shiznit… i’m totally addicted to project gotham racing 3… ungodly good… so there’s my main reason for my lack of blogging… and when i’m finished with this one i think i’ll maybe play a bit… just for a few minutes… hah…
maybe now…
