i mentioned in an earlier post either here or on homedad that our pal samantha was doing a little wedding dress shoppin’ the other day…
well we got word yesterday that the feller she’s gonna wear it for, charles, is back in the country after spending the last year in iraq… that gives me great joy and i’m teary eyed just writing this…

had the chance to play a round o’ the golf today… ’twas to make up for the missed opportunity last weekend due to the torrential downpour that showed up somewhat mysteriously on the golfing morning…
and it was good… got to share 18 holes of joy with guitar player steve and our pals andrew and dave… and i actually played pretty well… a surprise since its been a good 15 months since my last foray onto the links… except, of course, for hole #2… where i took an oh-so-honest eleven on the score card… ya know what tho’???… didn’t even threaten to put a damper on my spirits… that was cool…
fun was had…

lessee… saturday morning… rain… lotsa rain… immense rain… no golf… a bummer… but we’ll try again next weekend… thanks honey…
once i recovered from this rather bile-inducing development however… we had a swell day… our pal jessica came over to hang out and play with kenzie for a few hours whilst her mum sam went wedding dress shopping… whee haw… more on that in an upcoming post…
we all hung out and watched the rain for a bit… kenzie and jessica did some finger painting… err… actually more like toe painting… on the kitchen floor… and at some point i seem to remember the girls and i made a run to the wing dome for some chicken wings and french fries…
as an aside… i like spicy food… really spicy food… more often than not its not spicy enough… the wing dome does a superb job of actually makin’ stuff appropriately butt-rippin’ hot if you ask them to… and apart from the inherent messiness of the wing-eating… i really like their wings… going in with the ladies, however, a purchase on that sorta scoville level was a tad inappropriate… so we got an order of “0s” for kenzie… and because she’s a wild child jessica got an order of “1s”… being as they didn’t finish ‘em all i pilferred a couple as i was cleaning up and i gotta say… without the hot sauce… chicken wings kinda blow… hah…
and at 5:00 the beloved alma mater, the ohio state university, welcomed the university of texas to columbus for their first ever meeting… as osu was ranked 4 and ut was ranked 2 it was highly anticipated… and it was a hell of a game… in the quite positive sense until… oh… i dunno… about 2:37 to go in the 4th quarter if memory serves… when the bad guys scored the go ahead touchdown and made me sad… i bounced back fast tho’… kinda hard to be all cheesed off for long when kenzie’s saying stuff like “its ok daddy… don’t be sad… its all right”… she’s cute… and way cool for some life perspective often when its needed most…
on sunday we went over to our pals the lacey’s… had a fine romp in the park… were treated to a lovely dinner… and got to watch steve’s sweet huge-ass plasma tv for a bit… hah… what can i say???… i like them electronic-type toys… it was a cool part of our visit…

so its 4:00 in the morning…
thanks to the awesomeness of love-of-my-life karen i have been given the opportunity to go and play golf today with guitar player steve, dw, and our pal tim… i haven’t played any golf at all this year… should be entertaining for the other fellers…
two issues… uno… we’re playing early… and i need to get up in less than two hours to get ready… uh… and i seem to be writing this instead of sleeping… and dos… its friggin’ raining… not too much of a problem if it remains a light-ish sprinkle… bit of a pain in the ass if it starts raining harder…
on the much more evident bright side… my bestest pal karen is the greatest and has given me the opportunity to go play… everyone else in the house seems to sleeping wonderfully well… and i’m listening to bob dylan on the ipod… he’s my fave… more on that some other time…
no rain… no rain… no rain…
and… uh… don’t eat the brown acid…

saw an odd thing whilst driving around today…
les enfants and i were cruising along a residential street / arterial type thing… a lane in each direction with a turn lane in the middle… we were the third of three cars doing about 30 mph or so… and i see, up ahead of us, a cat come onto the road from the opposite side and start working its way toward us, the oncoming traffic…
so i’m thinkin’ “whoa kitty… lessee… you - 10 lbs moving at .2 mph… each of us - 3000 lbs moving at 30 mph… the physics isn’t looking so good my lil’ feline homey”… dudes / dudettes in front of me either don’t see the thing or are butts ‘cuz they don’t seem to slow down any…
i’m thinking ‘kitty pancake’ and preparing to be horrified by a roadkill incident (good band name)… (not really)… and hoping that my darling daughter kenzie isn’t seeing the carnage unfold… when the cat pauses in the other lane… seems to time his/her move rather perfectly… and proceeds to take a running leap from mid-center-turn-lane and pretty much karate kick the first dude / dudette in the driver’s door, bounce off back into the middle lane, and then somewhat casually (in my eyes) trot back across the road onto the sidewalk on the other side…
’twas one of the stranger things i’ve seen…
as we drove on i was wondering what the driver of car number one did to tick of the cat so much…

so we went to meet some friends at a park on sunday for a picnic… involved a drive on some unpaved roads and some dust…
when we came back to the car post-picnic some one had written “don’t feed the chickens” in the dust on the back window…
i dunno…

so my pal nick and i met and took our kids to the evergreen state fair yesterday… we had lots of fun… they had a bevy o’ sheep… this one was my favorite… i called him… sir…

i think the kids thought it was kinda odd how much the dads were laughing whilst photographing sheepies…
