i dig sports… fun to watch… fun to participate in… tremendous for teaching us about both ourselves and others i think…

for the most part i’m a casual fan… have a couple of teams i follow but as they’re not typically the best ones i find myself watching lots of teams, enjoying whatever happens and just looking to see good competition…

but there’s two events that i’m a junkie for… the fifa world cup and the tour de france

the world cup is gearing up for another appearance in 2006… germany’s hosting this time around which is awesome because i, for some bizarre and masochistic reason, really like watching games live at 2:00 in the morning… looking forward to that…

and we’re currently in full tour de france mode… i’m an unabashed lance armstrong fan and after losing the yellow jersey two days ago he friggin’ destroyed most of his serious rivals in today’s stage, took back the yellow jersey, and seems like he’s in very strong shape to win an unbelievable 7th tour…

karen and i have been fans of the tour for the last three years and have watched coverage pretty religiously… now kenzie’s into it too… she says “go lance” lots when we watch… its cute…

i hope armstrong wins again… his is one of the more incredible stories in the world of sports that i’ve ever seen… ’s been cool to see him in action… and the rest of the competitirs can heave a sigh of relief as he’s retiring after this tour to give some other fellers a shot… it’ll be interesting to see who rises to the top in the next few years…

well we had a fine time with the laceys and assorted amigos at their baby shower yesterday… snacks… drinks… chilluns tearin’ around having fun… all that good stuff…

was, i would have to say, a fine weekend all around…

and today, on a personal note of high achievement, i finished my third ny times sunday crossword in a row… whee… yep… i’m a dweeb… i’ve been a reasonably avid crossword-puzzle-doer since i was at university… and the grand daddy of ‘em all as far as i’m concerned is the ny times sunday edition… i usually only complete about five or six a year so the three in a row thing is big… uh… for me… now if only i could score some sort of stylin’ crossword-puzzle-doing sponsorship… that’d be cool…

so our pals the laceys are having a second baby in a month or so… gonna be a little girl and we’re going to have a baby shower for them today… i’m looking forward to it…

i’m not sure how we got on this kick but we seem to have a lot of baby showers at our house… i think this is the fourth or fifth… and we do ‘em right… co-ed with booze… come to think of it i guess that’s a good enough reason to keep havin’ them here…

i think its gonna be another fine seattle summer day as well so hopefully we’ll be able to have some fun in the sun…

since hearing the news about the bombings thursday i’ve been thinking about london a lot…

i’ve got good friends from england… that’s where my mum and dad are from too… so i feel a bit of a connection…

and i have the same sick feeling inside as i did when 9/11 happened…

i’m pissed off… i’m disgusted… and i’m sad… very sad…

so what do you do???… what do i do, i mean???…

well five or six years ago… pre meeting love-of-my-life karen… seeing b.s. like this unfold would have certainly been yet more proof that the world was hosed and getting worse and would further my resolve to never have kids…

forward to now… i’m in love… married… with two wonderful children… paradigm shift along the way???.. you betcha…

from then to now i’ve come to realize that the only way to have a shot at a better world is to have kids and do your damndest to give ‘em the tools to be good people… ‘cuz they and their children are the ones who are going to be able to make life better going forward… easier said than done but worth the effort methinks…

i think the people of london could not have acted any better this week… i applaud them… there’s a history of toughness there… i’ve talked briefly with my grandmother about her experiences during the battle of britain… and i was amazed to see the brotherhood and solidarity of new york after 9/11…

so i think what we do is give the bad guys the finger both in the day-to-day and in the long term as well… live life… love your fellow man… ’s what i’m gonna do anyway… i think love wins in the end…
